Patoli

PATOLI MOM's RECIPE
All You Need:
  • Chana dal 1/2 cup
  • Moong dal 1/4 cup
  • Ginger (v little)
  • Salt
  • Jeera
  • Curry leaves
  • Red Chillies
  • Potatoes cut in big cubes
The Recipe:
  • Soak Chana dal and moong dal for 3 hrs. Make sure to drain all the water.
  • Grind with red chillies,Jeera, ginger and salt. Do not grind to a fine paste. Make sure some chana dal is still visible
  • Heat oil and add avalu,curry leaves, potatoes and salt
  • After potato is half fried, add mixture on a very low flame
  • Keep cooking mixing in between. Switch off flame when the mixture no longer sticks to your hands
  • Important note: DO NOT USE TOO MUCH OIL. Otherwise the mixture gets crispy and you will not get the correct texture 
PATOLI SWETHA's RECIPE
All You Need:
  • Chana dal 1/2 cup + 2 spoons
  • Toor dal 1/2 cup
  • Red Chillies
  • Jeera
  • Salt
  • Hing
  • Curry leaves
  • Vegetable of your choice (boil it with salt and turmeric)
The Recipe:
  • Soak Chana dal and toor dal for 2-3 hrs
  • Grind with red chillies, Jeera, hing, salt
  • Steam the mixture for 10-12 minutes in Idli steamer. Make sure a fork comes out clean when inserted
  • Let it cool completely
  • Pulse grind the mixture
  • Heat oil and add avalu, hing, curry leaves
  • Add the mixture. Close the lid and let it roast.
  • Do not mix a lot of times as you want the mixture to roast
  • In the end add the boiled vegetable of your choice. Make sure to add salt and turmeric when boiling the vegetable
