Urad Dal Muruku

All You Need:

  • 1/2 Cup Roasted Urad Dal
  • 1/4 cup Putnalu
  • 3 Cups Rice flour
  • Small bowl Hot smoking oil for dough 
  • Hot water for dough
  • Salt
  • Sesame seeds
  • Hing
  • Oil for deep fry
The Recipe:
  • Dry roast 1 cup urad dal and at the end roast putnalu.
  • Let it cool and grind to a fine powder
  • Sieve the rice flour along with the urad powder . This step is important.
  • Add salt, sesame seeds and hing and mix well
  • Add hot oil and hot water and mix well. Mixture will be crumbly at this point. Keep aside covered with a lid
  • Take 2-3 ladles of the mixture in a separate bowl and mix with wet hands. Make a smooth soft dough and add to muruku press
  • Press murukus in hot oil
  • Once oil bubbles clear up, flip and cook for a minute more and remove
