Moong Dal Chilla

All You Need:
  • 1 cup Moong dal (yellow)
  • 1 green chilli
  • small piece of ginger
  • green part of scallions or Chopped cilantro
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli powder
  • water (only if needed)
  • Olive oil
The Recipe:
  • Soak the dal for about a couple of hours.
  • In a blender, put dal, ginger and green chilli.  Blend it together without water if possible.  If you see it is not working then add a little bit water to make smooth batter.
  • Now add the chopped cilantro, onion, scallions, salt and red chilli powder.  Mix well.  If the batter is too thick then add a little water to adjust the consistency.  The consistency shouldn’t be too runny or thick.
  • Heat the fry pan and add like about half teaspoon of oil.  Using a ladle, pour the batter and spread as thin as you can.  Let it cook.  If needed put a little oil all around the edge of the chilla.  Scrape the sides with a  flat spatula and turn.
  • Cook on the other side on a medium heat until done.  You can flip one more time to make sure it is cooked all the way.  Serve hot with any type of side.  I served it with yogurt.  In the yogurt I added half a teaspoon of mint chutney and gave it a mix.
